Center for Inquiry Northeast Ohio
The full title of the Cleveland Branch June 13 meeting, at 7 pm, at the Parma Heights Library is, “Parallax: How Astronomers have Measured the distance to the Stars”. Our program will be presented by avid amateur astronomer and Cuyahoga Astronomical Association member Tim Campbell. Looking high in the eastern sky on a clear June evening, we see a triangle of bright stars that form the appropriately-named “Summer Triangle”. We now know that the stars, though similar in apparent magnitude, have vastly different distances from Earth (the nearest is 14.5 light years away, the farthest is 2,600 light years distant. How did we come to know this? Tim will be providing in-depth answers to this question during his presentation.
As usual, after the program Tim will be happy to field questions on the main topic, or any other astronomy-related questions for that matter!
Also as usual, refreshments will be available.
Please plan on joining us!
